My biggest passion project to date!

It's an outfit. I'm making my own fit.

For some context: I'm seeing Mitski live later this month, on her NATHTM tour. I love Mitski, and have been a sad-girl-hours-ing to her for about....eight years now? She easily clears my top 3 artists (the other two being Radiohead and Lord Huron), and it feels like being in the same room as her deserves more artsy effort than a Ticketmaster battle. Hence, an outfit by my own hand.

The inspo for starting this:

The outfit:

The composition of the fit is a raglan or halterneck top (I'm still undecided, but its probably a halterneck. In theory, it is easy to convert from one to the other, a capelet, a skirt, and a merch bandanna (i hope!).

The top:

This is quite possibly the most time consuming, elaborate and risky (in the sense of being able to finish by the concert) bit of my outfit. The plan is for the back to be done as a tapestry, and the front worked up plain (or maybe with Mitski written on it? I don't know. It depends on where I'm at on timelines. The tapestry can work up as a square, with the top of the square decreasing to form the halter. One of the more challenging bits of this will be having to buy new yarn, because I currently do not own any fingerweight.

Inspo for the front of the top looks like this:
The tapestry on the back is something I'm super divided about. I could possibly do a "Sing if nothing's about to happen to me" scrawled on the back, and it seems easy enough to do. (A variation of the Honk if NATHTM)

Other options may be one of the stickers on her store for this album or the art on the catnip grinder, but given that I'll be learning tapestry from scratch, that may be too ambitious for a two week project :P

The Capelet

Why on earth a capelet, you could ask. And the answer, well, contains multitudes. The "me" reasons being, I'm not sure if it will be woolen sleeves weather, and what the heating/cooling situation at the hall is. I'm also not entirely cool with sleeveless tops and having my arms out on full display, so a modular option seems ideal. The art directed options being, have you SEEN the themes of the album? A cape is just the kind of whimsy a NATHTM-coded outfit needs. This is also something that hasn't been magicked into existence yet, and for some reason the piece I chose to start with. I'm about 7% done, but I can really only tell how done I am when I try it on. This is the inspo for the cape:

And the pattern

I really like that it's a super simple, no brainer, low cortisol type pattern, I think it should work up pretty fast!

The Skirt

The skirt is an old(er) one that hasn't really "debuted" yet, but I made last year. It's heavier than an object of clothing that size should be, and I'm a little worried about how it hold up and might have to think of alternatives. I freehanded it, and it's a wee black thing with a purple and a teal stripe, and a lace up tie at the side. It's the biggest piece of fiber art I've made, and I made it as a way to take my mind off my impending dissertation submission. It's cool as shit.

The Bandanna

Bro. Need I even explain.

The only piece of "main"/statement clothing I will not be handmaking.
I wonder if it would be rude to wear TLDP merch to Mitski, I have a pair of really cute knee length socks from their "From The Pyre" tour. I'm going to have so much fun :)

Tell me what you think, or simply say hi!
